Delhi Traffic Police has become much vigilant and better than any other traffic police in India. It is not an easy affair now for any driver to violate traffic laws and go away without any action. If you notice on roads in Delhi, there are always those white colored two wheelers and cabs of Delhi Traffic Police patrolling on roads, 24 hours a day.
While saying that, we certainly do not mean that there are altogether no violations and crimes on Delhi roads. Yes, they are, but Delhi Traffic Police is trying its level best to execute the laws on paper to make it happen as a practice on the roads.
Just like any other traffic police, the Delhi Traffic Police too has a rulebook to follow and the list of fines which could be imposed on the violators. Once such violation, which has caught the attention of Delhi Traffic Police recently is inappropriate driving and parking at Zebra Crossing.
We Indians are quite good in exploiting loopholes of a system. For example, if yellow traffic light is meant to be a warning signal for red light, a driver is supposed to stop while he notices yellow light. However, the fact is we often jump the traffic on a yellow light considering that it was not yet a red light. Even if we are caught by the traffic official, we argue about the same concept, which is certainly wrong on our part.
Likewise, stopping on Zebra Crossing is mandatory when if there is a red light or if there are people waiting to cross the road. However, what we do is we either ignore the red light, or stop on the zebra crossing mark or sometimes park our vehicles on zebra crossing.
For those who are not aware, we would like to inform that Delhi Police has become quite vigilant in terms of traffic violations at zebra crossing and there is a fine of Rs 100 at the sight and repeated Challans can end you up in bigger trouble.
A similar Zebra Crossing drive was started by Mumbai Traffic Police in 2013, when more than 50,000 drivers were challaned for zebra crossing violation. The drive was much popularly known as ‘Don’t Kill the Zebra’.
So, if you are driving on Delhi roads, be vigilant and be responsible. Don’t ignore Zebra Crossings at all. The Delhi Traffic Cops are watching and any violation could end you up in trouble.
