Karnataka Social Welfare Department is thinking about launching a Vidyasiri program from October 1 for the BC students. Under this scheme, a stipend will be paid to the students who opt out of hostel and decide to live on their own. This money will be paid by the government of Karnataka. The application form for Vidyasri is available at www.backwardclasses.kar.nic.in from the first week of October.
Under this scheme, as already mentioned, there will be a stipend of INR 1500 paid out to the students who have chosen to live on their own instead of in the hostels. It has been planned that 20,000 students will be paid this stipend. They will receive this stipend for 10 months every year. Once the students have applied at the website, the provision for payment will be made using EPASS which stands for Electronic Payment System of Scholarship. The amount of INR 1500 will be transferred directly to the bank account of the student.
Earlier, Karnataka Social Welfare Department had increased the annual scholarship amount for the students who belonged to the backward classes. Also, there had been some shortage of the rooms in the hostels. Therefore, the welfare department plans to renovate the facilities and also build up new facilities to be able to accommodate more students. The entire project may take up to three months.
Since the special arrangements are being made for the students from the backward classes, there is a different website on which they can go and fill the online application for under the Vidasiri scheme. The application for scholarship can be filled at the EPASS website karepass.cgg.gov.in.
