Tatkal Charges for SL and ACs
Indian Railways changed the Tatkal charges in the budget announced during the fiscal year. These new rates have already been implemented as per commercial circular number 34 published in 2015. The new charges were put into effect on 15th of June 2015. Here is a quick look at the Tatkal charges for SL and ACs categories of Indian Railways:
|New Minimum Tatkal Charge||New Maximum Tatkal Charge||Travel class||Effective from|
|₹ 90||₹ 175||Sleeper||15.06.2015|
|₹ 100||₹ 200||Chair Car AC|
|₹ 250||₹ 350||3rd AC|
|₹ 300||₹ 400||2nd AC|
|₹ 300||₹ 400||Executive AC (available on in Shatabdi Express)|
These new Tatkal rates are available all-round the year irrespective of periods of peak and non-peak travels. In case of Shatabdi Express’ Executive AC, only 10% of the available seats in a given coach can be booked on Tatkal basis. This means than no more than 5 seats per coach will be allowed for Executive AC in Shatabdi Express.
Tatkal booking can be done up to 1 day prior to the journey day. Such bookings cannot be done on the very day of traveling. This is applicable for all classes of travel including Sleeper and ACs. The timings for Tatkal booking are as follow:
- For AC traveling – booking opens at 10 AM every day.
- For Non-AC traveling – booking opens at 11 AM every day. Please Read detailed information on Train Tatkal Timings
How can you get Duplicate copy of Tatkal Tickets in case you have lost it.
In case you lose the Tatkal ticket, Indian Railways will issue a duplicate Tatkal ticket only if the full payment for the ticket is made once again. This means that you need to book a Tatkal ticket once again with only difference being, you will get the same seat as booked earlier. If you refuse to pay the whole ticket price all over again, a duplicate ticket WILL NOT be issued. Please note that this is only in case of tickets booked from ticket counter. If you have booked tickets online then you can simply get it re printed from irctc site.
All Tatkal tickets will be charged on the basis of the actual distance traveled and not on the basis of end-to-end journey. Let us explain this with an example.
We assume that you want to travel from point A to point B which are actually 218 kilometers apart. Under normal circumstances (that is normal ticket), for traveling from A to B, you may have to book a ticket for A to C separated by a distance of 222 kilometers with C being a later stop than B. So, under normal circumstances, you will be paying extra for 4 kilometers that you will actually not travel. This will not happen in case of Tatkal ticket. You will be charged exactly for 218 kilometers and not 222 kilometers.
Identity proof requirement for Tatkal Ticket Booking
Tatkal ticket booking will require identity proof. You will have to provide any 1 among the below listed 10 acceptable identity proof documents:
- Voter Identity Card.
- Driving License.
- Passbook of nationalized bank provided the passbook has your photo.
- Aadhar Card.
- Bank issued Credit Cards that have your photograph laminated on them.
- Any photo identity card that has a serial number and has been issued by:
- Penchant Administration.
- Municipal bodies.
- District Administration.
- Central or State government public sector undertaking.
- School or college issued identity card having your photo.
- Central or State government issued identity card that has a serial number.
If multiple people (for example a few members of a family) are to travel on Tatkal ticket, at least one member needs to provide a self-attested copy of any of the aforementioned identity proof along with requisition slip. The details found on the identity-proof document will not only be saved in Indian Railways database but will also be mentioned on:
- Reservation chart.
- Reservation ticket(s).
It is mandatory for the person whose identity proof has been provided to travel along with other members. If the person is not on board, the remaining passengers will be considered as travelers without ticket and will have to pay fine accordingly (which is usually the whole ticket price plus additional money as a penalty).
Tatkal tickets can be booked online by passengers. However, the identity proof still must be sent along with requisition slip.
