Under the provision of section 39 of motor vehicle Act 1988, an Individual can drive a vehicle on the Indian roads and public places if he or she has been issued a registration certificate by the concerning authorities. If you have lost or damaged the registration certificate (RC), you will need to get a fresh copy issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

You will need form 26
To apply for the new copy of the RC, you will need to fill and submit form 26 at the concerning Delhi RTO. You will need to sign the declaration on the form that the RC copy to be applied for has not been canceled or suspended under any circumstances. You can download and print the form 26 at:
You will need to submit two of these forms. One of the copies needs to be attested. It also needs to be endorsed if there is a hypothecation from a bank or financer.

A copy of FIR is also needed to get Delhi RC reissued after damage or loss
You need to report the loss/damage of the RC at the nearest delhi police station. The original copy of the FIR will need to be submitted along with the other documents. It is advisable to report the loss/damage instantly when you notice it.
Delhi Traffic Police Challan Clearance
The new copy of RC is only issued if when you don’t have any pending challans or fines with the traffic police department. As a proof, you will need to get a challan clearance or NOC from the traffic police department.

- Insurance policy copy duly attested
