PMKVY is a skill development and job oriented scheme which has been launched by the Indian Govt. It was launched on 15th July, 2015. The main motto of this special training scheme is to provide skillful training and industry exposure to the youths of the nation so that they can be capable to compete for the jobs. PMKVY is a flagship scheme by the NDA govt. to fight the high rate of unemployment among Indian youths. Under the PKMVY scheme, the beneficiaries will be provided theoretical as well as practical training on several professional and job oriented courses by the registered training centres. After completion of the training, they will be given certification on the enrolled courses along with cash rewards.
What is PMKVY Key features?
This is the flagship scheme launched by the Indian Govt. to provide skill development to the thousands of targeted unemployed youths of the nation. The total corpus amount allocated by the Indian Govt. for this scheme is Rs. 1,500 crore. A target group of 24 lakh youths all across the nation is estimated to get benefited with this govt. scheme. This scheme will not only be beneficial to get job oriented training, but also to get Govt. certification and monetary rewards on successful completion of the training. Need and aim
Unemployment is one of the greatest challenges faced by the nation, at present. A large section of youths are suffering from unemployment. The present scenario has also changed where the industries. Factories and organizations are recruiting skilled youths only. So the PKMVY targets to provide skill development training to the youths of the nation, giving them certification and help them bag a job. On registration to the scheme, the beneficiaries will go through training at the registered training centres. By completing the courses, the beneficiaries will be able to compete in the market and get a job.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana benefits
As the PKMVY scheme is pitched for the unemployed youth, mostly those who are school dropouts or belong to low income group, backward classes, etc. The main benefits of this scheme are that the beneficiaries can choose their desired training centre location as well as course preference. After the completion of training, they will be given a course completion certificate from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). This certificate is of great value to find jobs as well as to do entrepreneurship after the completion of training. Also, there is monetary reward for the successful candidates under the PKMVY scheme with average reward of Rs. 8,000.
Although this is one of the major schemes by the Indian govt. to fight unemployment and impart skillful training among the youths, still there are some drawbacks associated with this scheme. A total of 2,300 training centres are operational under the PMKVY scheme throughout the country. But few states do not have enough training centres to cater all the needy beneficiaries. Some states in North East do not have adequate training centres in all districts. Also all the training centres affiliated with the PMKVY are not designed for providing skill training in all the skill sectors. Another major disadvantage of this scheme is that Aadhar card and a bank account is required to join the scheme. Many youths do not fill these necessary criteria till now.

PKMVY training center
To join the PKMVY scheme, the beneficiaries will have to join the registered training centres. A total number of 2,300 such skill development training centres are there across the country in every state. The numbers of the training centres are also increasing day by day. One can choose a particular training centre which as per the course sector and location of training centre. This can be done online by visiting: http://pmkvyofficial.org/Training-Centre.aspx. After finding a suitable training centre, one can get enrolled to the course.
PKMVY registration online/ offline
The first step of joining the PKMVY scheme is to locate the training centre for pursuing the desired skill development courses. One can look for the training centres through both offline and online mode. For searching the training centres online, one must visit the link: http://pmkvyofficial.org/Training-Centre.aspx. There, by selecting the sector of course or by location, or by training partner, one can get the details of the available training centres offering the course. One can also visit the office of PKMVY to get the training centre details. After this, one needs to visit the training centre to enroll for the course. All details regarding the training schedule will be provided in the training centre only. The registration process in the training centres is offline where PKMVY forms will have to be filled up along with required documents and submitted along with the course fees.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Eligibility criteria
To become eligible to join the PMKVY, one must be a citizen of India. Also the minimum age of joining the scheme is 18 years. The candidates must possess a valid Aadhaar card which is necessary to prove the citizenship of the candidate and works as both proof of identity and proof of address. And the second important eligibility criterion to join the PKMVY scheme is that a savings account in any bank is a must. Also for the training centres to participate in the scheme, the agency must be affiliated to the PKMVY scheme and become an eligible partner.
Multiple courses are allowed in PMKVY
A beneficiary can not only just get skill development training under the PMKVY scheme, under a specific sector, he/she can opt for multiple courses as well. A beneficiary can take multiple courses in one sector or in various sectors. The certification will also be given to each course completed. But the monetary reward will be given to one beneficiary for one course only and one cannot claim multiple monetary rewards for joining multiple courses.
Why Aadhar card and bank details are mandatory?
The two main requirements needed to join the PMKVY scheme are having a valid Aadhar card and a bank account. The Aadhar card is a unique document which is required to establish the ID proof, citizenship proof and proof of address. Aadhar card contains the biometric details of a candidate, which is unique and thus keeps the scheme transparent. Depending on the Aadhar card, the candidates will be allocated identity cards for the scheme. Thus it is a mandatory document to join the scheme. And a valid bank account from any public or private bank is required in the name of the candidate. At first the Aadhar will be linked with the bank account of the candidate. After that, if the candidate is eligible to get monetary reward, the amount will only be transferred to the registered bank account.
Fee structure for training and assessment
The fee structure for different courses is set by the participating training centres under the PMKVY scheme. Every course attracts different fees and the details of the fees structure can be obtained by visiting the respective training centres offering those courses. For those candidates who are not capable of paying the training fees can also join the course. After completion they can pay the training fees with their monetary reward amount which will be credited in their bank account. There is a separate assessment fee that needs to be paid at the time of enrollment along with the course fees. In PKMVY, if a candidate is having multiple courses, still he/she can opt for only a single assessment at a time.
As per the QP-NOS regulations, the time duration of each and every courses are set. Some courses can run up to a year where as some courses are of few months. The details of time duration of the courses will be provided by the training centres. After the training, the procedure of certification takes a little time too.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Placement or job guarantee?
As the PMKVY scheme is a skill development program under which there are numerous courses under various sectors to select. Job oriented training as well as practical exposure is given to the candidates enrolled under the scheme so that they become job-ready. The certification of the courses is very helpful to compete in the market and bag a job. The training centres provide total assistance for placement of its candidates after the completion of the course. However, there is no such 10 per cent job guarantee given by any training centre under PMKVY.
How to get reward money in PMKVY?
After the assessment and certification procedure is over, the successful candidates get a monetary reward under the PMKVY scheme. The average amount, a candidate gets rewarded is Rs. 8,000. Some courses also provide higher reward amount. The amount is credited directly to the registered bank account of the beneficiary.
Creditable fee facility in PMKVY
In the PMKVY scheme, there is a creditable fee facility for the candidates. In general, the candidates need to pay the training fees and assessment fees in advance before start of training. But in some cases, if the economic condition of the candidate is not sound, he / she can also take the creditable fee facility. After the successful completion of the course, the candidate will receive monetary reward in their bank account registered with the scheme. Then they can pay the course fees to the training centre.
PMKVY Scholarship is available or not?
Several training agencies and partners which are registered under the PMKVY provide scholarships to their candidates. The economically backward candidates can join the course without paying the course and assessment fees upfront. There is a creditable fee facility available where they can start the training without fee payment. They can pay the fees later only after the monetary reward is credited to the bank account after successful completion of the course.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Exam pattern
After the candidate enrolls for a skill training course by selecting a specific course in a specific sector, there will be regular internal exams conducted by the training centre. There will be exams on the theoretical subjects as well as practical tests. After a series of internal exams, the candidates will appear for the final assessment. Third party agencies approved by the Govt. under the PMKVY scheme will take the assessment session which will include both theory as well as practical papers.
