Muslims around the World and why they are still safe in India
Muslims are the worlds’ second largest population, next to Christians. According a research, Islam has around 1.8 billion followers all over the world. That means about 24% of the world population are Muslims. Indonesia is the home of the highest number of Muslim population. And the next is India which has around 172 million Muslims. Here in India Muslims are considered minorities. But the big question is are the Muslims safe in those countries where they form the majority.
According to the Global Peace Index 2015, the top five safe and peaceful countries are
Iceland has the score of 1.148 in the Global Peace Index. So all these countries are basically European countries. These countries have Christianity as the majority population. Whereas Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Israel, Pakistan, etc. are placed at the bottom of the list. Syria bottoms the list with 3,645 points in the Global Peace Index. These are the most dangerous and disturbed places to live and travel. These countries are basically are those countries where the majority of their population follows Islam. So the point is Muslim population is not at all in the leading Muslim majority countries itself. There is a rising level of terror, war, crimes in these countries.
There are several reasons behind this condition of the Muslim population, especially in the Islamic and Arab countries. The major cause of this suffering is religious taboos and misguiding social and political factors. The three major factors causing this problem are knowledge, freedom and women rights. First of all there even today a large section of Muslim community all over the world is illiterate. Some have received education from madrasas where there is no proper educational structure, course structure, proper teachers, etc. They preach the old religious sayings. Their mode of teaching is old and outdated. They provide a negative image on todays’ modern education. Another reason is freedom. Most of the Muslim countries have no strong democracy at all. One cannot think and express differently. There are no human or political rights. There is no freedom of media, be it print media, satellite media or global internet. Some groups are so rigid and orthodox that they don’t even believe that man has landed on moon. They only believe that Islamic rule must be there in the whole world. Women in the Muslim dominated countries have less or no human rights at all. No right to get education, have a career, dress freely or even they are forbidden to drive.
The saddest part is the preachings of Prophet Mohammad are misunderstood and misinterpreted in this Muslim society. One such misunderstood concept is Jihad. Jihad means war against the evil forces, for the sake of Allah. And Mujahid is that person who follows the path of Jihad. But some groups have started to spread terrorism in the name of Jihad. This is basically done just because of own political and economic profit. Masses are misguided in the name of religion and they are gave training to spread terror all over the world. So the western world is the very safe and secure for the Muslims for living. There they can enjoy freedom, liberty, have good education, rise their living standard, have women rights, etc. The number of Muslim population in Europe is swelling day by day. More immigrants are leaving the Arab and Gulf countries and are getting shifted to European countries like France, Sweden, UK, etc. Here they can leave their backwardness and autocracy and have a good life and provide a bright future to their kids. There are also great job opportunities in these countries.
Now, India has the second most Muslim population in the world, after Indonesia. According to statistics, Muslim population in India is around 172 million. The Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians are the major religious groups in India. Hinduism is the major region and Islam is the largest minority. India is the homeland of many Muslim immigrants from Arab and Middle East countries. India was earlier ruled by Mughal emperors. They gave the name Hind to this country. Later Britishers conquered this country from the hands of Mughals and named it India. During their rule, they started dividing the nation and its people in the name of religion. It was an effective policy of the Britishers called Divide and Rule policy. The partition of India and Pakistan started the religious tensions all around the country. The Hindu Muslim conflicts were there from centuries. But now after partition, they took an ugly turn. Religious and political groups of both religion started to infuse tension among masses and encouraged to fight against each other. Several religious riots took place in India. These divided the masses and hatred was spread among them. Again, few external factors from neighboring countries are also affecting the peace of India. Various communal clashes have taken lives of many Hindus and Muslims. There is always a constant tension with Pakistan. Pakistan had fought wars against India for Kashmir and other big issues. Terror groups from across the border like Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Mujahideen are continuously making terror attacks in various parts of India. As a result the entire Muslim population is suffering here in India.
But after all these, many researches have shown that India is still the safest place for Muslims to live independently with their heads held high. Muslims are safer in India than they are in Pakistan, surveys have proved. Indian Govt. have taken numerous steps to protect the Muslim communities and for their betterment. Several Govt. policies and schemes for Muslim population are launched and enforced for their social and economic development. Many educational institutions are opened and operated for them. Students of Muslim minorities are also given special support so that they can compete for jobs and have bright careers. Govt. along with various NGOs and Muslim organizations are working on it. Here in India Muslim women have liberty and freedom. They get educated, have career and rising great heights.
India has produced many Muslim heroes who fought for India’s independence. Muslims are shining in every aspect, be it Science and Technology, Politics, Sports, entertainment, etc. India is the only Hindu majority country which can have a Muslim President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and a Sikh Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, together.
