Sports Ministry of India Launches “Mission 11 Million” To Be Launched in October, 2016 To Engage 11 Million Children in Football Related Activities
Football has become a globally popular sport. With its popularity sky rocketing across the entire world, India too is trying to engage children and youngsters in this active, interesting and thrilling sport, especially because India is going to host the prestigious Football tournament of FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time in world’s history.
Role of Department of Sports In Promoting Football In India
Sports Ministry of India is taking up an initiative called “Mission 11 Million” to engage at least 11 million children in sports activities related to football, with an aim to promote this popular sport in India. The step is being taken as India will be hosting world championship for football FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time in India’s history.
Secretary to the Department of Sports, Shri Rajiv Yadav has issued a letter to all chief secretaries of Indian states and Union territories stating the importance of popularizing football amongst youngsters in India, as FIFA U-17 World Cup is due to be held in October, 2017, which is only two years away from its commencement.
Acknowledging the meagre time left in the beginning of this tournament in India, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has urged governments of all states and union territories to brainstorm ideas and implement them in order to make FIFA U-17 World Cup a success in India.
PM Modi & His Encouraging Words For Promoting Football
The enthusiasm for FIFA is not limited to just football aficionados. In fact, our very Prime Minister of India is looking forward to make this tournament a huge success in our country.
This is quite clear from the encouraging words that PM of India, Narendra Modi spoke on his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on 27th of March. He talked about building a healthy atmosphere for football in order to boost young footballers to play this sport with vigor and fervor. Further, the PM wishes to see children playing football in every nook and corner in India.
How Mission 11 Million Evolved?
Following the call of PM Narendra Modi, the Department of Sports has taken a serious of steps to popularize Football across the country. The Sports ministry conducted a number of discussions with prestigious sports and school associations such as FIFA, KVS, AIFF, CBSE, Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society and other such stake holders to undertake appropriate programs in order to instill the passion of football across the nation.
One of the ideas that emerged through these rigorous discussions between the above mentioned associations is “Mission 11 Million”. It wouldn’t be wrong to call “Mission 11 Million” a brainchild of Department of Sports and various associations such as FIFA, CBSE, AIFF, KVS, etc.
Now What Is “Mission 11 Million”?
Mission 11 Million is an initiative taken up by India government to engage more than 11 million children in footballed related activities. It is tie up between Department of Sports and FIFA. The program will cover 30 Indian cities across the country and will strive towards involvement of students, sportsmen and young, enthusiastic and talent footballers in various football related activities which will be organized under this initiative.
The program will most probably be launched in October, 2016, almost exactly a year before the tournament of FIFA U-17 World Cup will begin in India.
