The Indian Cricket board has final decided to go forward with the idea of having a Mini IPL after seeing the amazing figures on the last season of the India Premier League. So the announcement says that there will be a Mini IPL held overseas every September from this year onwards. The only confusion remains that whether to brand the game Mini IPL or IPL Overseas.
BCCI president Anurag Thakur said that the final dates and the format is yet to be decided and will be announced in due course. It is assumed that the board is waiting for the teams and the franchises to sort their issues and to decide in the broadcaster as well.

The committee meeting of the board was held yesterday and at the end of the meeting it was confirmed that the shorter version of the IPL will be played in September and it will be a two-week affair. The board got the idea of planning a Mini IPL from the approaches made by some of the franchises for playing friendly matches in USA.
There are many reasons because of which the IPL in September could be only a two week affair. There is Duleep Trophy coming up which is India’s first-class zonal competition and that has already been scheduled for the end of September. Due to this reason a shorter IPL was suggested, but then it will be a tight schedule according to the BCCI president. Also India likely to host single test match against Bangladesh but it pushed back to the next month.
The Board has suggested that all the eight IPL teams should play for the Mini IPL, but the confirmation is still to be given. The venue for the game is yet to be finalized but the Board is keen on having it in US. Another option for the venue that is being considered is UAE, where a few matches of the IPL 7th season were held. Both these places are being considered keeping in mind the sizable Indian population in the places.
Another major factor that is to be decided is that who will be the broadcaster of the Mini IPL. Sony has broadcasting rights for the IPL till 2017 but then Star is also a strong contender, considering that they are owners of broadcasting Indian home series. Anurag Thakur announced that all the details about the match will be given after talking to the franchise and the broadcaster.
