The government has made marriage registration mandatory for all married couples. But, at the same time, it has planned to leverage citizens with online facility of marriage registration, which would make the entire process smooth and hassle-free.The only reason not all marriages in India were registered is because of the mere fact that the entire process was tiresome and filled with corruption and touts. It was hardly possible for anyone to register their marriage at fair costs and fee set by the government.
Only those dared to get their marriages registered who required the marriage certificates for documentary purposes for various reasons. The rest of us never cared or probably never dared. But with this online facility, it is certain that almost all of the couples getting married, especially urban and educated would get their marriages registered, for sure.
The Delhi government’s revenue department will be launching this project somewhere in September 2014 and would start the facility from north district of Delhi. Furthermore, the government plans to come up with digitized certificates in times to come.
The government’s decision for online marriage registration may have surfaced in order to cater to three important objectives.
1. To facilitate couples to enjoy a convenient mode of registering their marriage.
2. To help the data agencies get a clearer picture of marital status of the population.
3. Most importantly, to root out the middlemen and touts involved in marriage registrations.
Well what ever be the reasons, but those tying knots after the launch of the new portal can’t ask for more as they can get their marriage registered while sitting at home and thus enjoy a peaceful and hassle-free life. It is not yet certain about the procedures that would be involved for those who are already married and want to register their marriage. However, we hope that it would make everyone use the portal with the same features.
