Grama jyothi Yojana in Telangana
It’s been more than a year since Telangana was carved out as new state in India. The fairly new state has been doing exceptionally well in terms of policies and services it is providing to its citizens. The state has become one of the pioneers in providing world class social welfare services to the people of Telangana and there would be a time, as we foresee, that it would become one of the most developed states of the country.
The Key Areas covered under Grama Jyothi Yojana
Safe Drinking Water Supply
Clean water supply is surely a concerned these days in both rural and urban areas. The scheme would build necessary infrastructure required for ensuring that safe drinking water is available for all.
The scheme would identify grey areas of sanitation like waste management, dumping practices, garbage disposal, developing compost pits, defecation free surrounding, developing soak pits, etc. All this would be carried out keeping Panchayati Raj governance and villages in the centre stage.
Developing infrastructure for Drains, internal roads and street lights
The development of any village is incomplete without good and well connected roads, proper disposing drains and maintained street lights. The scheme would target these areas and actualize the concerns through active support from the village panchayat and scheme’s governing body.
Natural Resource Management
Deforestation has become a cause of concern for the entire country, not to leave villages as well. To tap the natural resources and make villages a better and greener place, the scheme would work out plans and implement it to ensure that each village has ample and active green cover that include food producing trees, supplementary trees and medicinal trees. Sustainable green cover development is the key to success of any village.
Health and Nutrition
Effective health and nutrition awareness system would be developed in all villages that ensure that people, especially, children and women get the best available medical support within the village itself, thereby cutting short the dependence of people of far towns and cities for medical facilities.
Education is one of the aspects that supplement other factors of development. If the villages can ensure that each child in the village gets enrolled for primary, secondary and higher education, the younger generations can bring villages to a new level of development. This scheme would not only target younger lot, but provide necessary academic motivation and support to the older population so that they are able to live their living more efficiently.
The news of Grama Jyothi Yojana is making the rounds these days, a program that is going to be launched at Panchayati Level. This scheme would empower village panchayat to undertake necessary action regarding development of social security, agricultural infrastructure, health and nutrition, safe drinking water, sanitation and development of natural resources.
Formation of Grama Jyothi Program Body
The following members/bodies would be forming the body of self-governance under Grama Jyothi Yojana:
- A retired government servant
- A leader from a self-help group
- Local gram panchayat leaders
- One representative from any community based organization
Overall, Grama Jyothi Program is a good means of grass root development. If the villages of a country and state can be developed from inside out, there would be less and less role of government to support people from outside. The government of Telangana would go a long way in sustainable development, if such schemes are implemented and executed effectively.
