Get your Address Proof from your nearest Post Office
Any address proof is very important to prove the identity and residential status of any citizen. You need to produce it every time for authenticating your identity. Moreover, not everyone has ID proofs like PAN Card, Adhaar Card and Passport, but if you do not have an address proof document then it almost becomes impossible for you to apply for a gas or water connection which is the basic necessity though.
Long procedures are involved for getting these proofs but now you can have your ID cum address proof easily from your local post office in easy steps.
You need to send a registered letter or a speed post to your own postal address. After receiving that letter you then to take it to the post office. Further you need to address the head of the department in your local post office and collect a form for filing your address proof. The cost of that form is only Rs.10. In some cases there might be unavailability of forms at the local post office and they would ask you to get it from the Head Office. But you need not take those hassles and just download the form online. There are links online from where you can download this form.
Then you need to fill the form with all the required details and submit it along with a fees of Rs.240. You also need to submit two color passport sizes photographs with a white background, your blood group and proof of your permanent address.
The procedure will take 2 months and after all the verifications the post office will issue you a colored ID card as your ID proof and residential proof. During the verification a post man will also be sent to your address for checking the same. This card will be accepted everywhere for authenticating your identity.
The Colored ID card issued will be valid for 3 years and then you need to renew it by paying a renewal fees of Rs.150. Moreover, in the due course if your ID card is misplaced or lost you can get a duplicate copy by paying a fee of Rs.100.
This card issued by the postal department of India can be used as both ID proof and address proof. This will also have a colored picture of the citizen for further authentication. This is really helpful for all the people who reside outside their state like students who study in some other state or other professional employees who have jobs that are transferable. Such citizens normally live in rented accommodations and hence it becomes very difficult for them to produce an address proof for applying for a landline, electricity, and water or gas connection.
This initiative is very useful and a life savior for these citizens but one thing that you need to ensure while applying for this proof is that you cannot just approach any post office for this, you need to reach out to the nearest post office from your address for doing the same.
