No individuals who are looking to verify their tax returns are required to submit a manually signed ITR-V verification form to the CPC of Bangalore. Now, EVC incorporates a certain set of characters that locates a number, and that number offers the complete identity of a certain individual and the documents offered by the person.
If you are not able to verify the ITR electronically, or by generating the EVC, then you need to send the signed copy of ITR-V within 120 days through ordinary or speed post. This process is available from the year 2015, so if you are filling the returns of past years then you need to opt for the traditional method of sending signed UTR-V within 120 days.
The process of generating EVC
So, we have learned how EVBC can be used for the verification of income tax returns, but remember this can be done for the years 2015-2016 only. And you cannot do this for the previous years. Now that the above process is clear, we need to know about the procedure for generating the EVC for the verification of income tax returns. There are certain ways though which you can generate EVC, they are as follows:
You can link your Aadhar card along with the PAN number and verify it through the one time password. The procedure is really simple, but one you have to make sure that the Date of Birth and gender is same on both the documents, because otherwise, the EVC generation procedure shall not take place.
The next method is to go to the official website of filing tax returns. But this process is valid only if you have tax returns upto the amount of 5 lakh or less than this amount and there is no claim for refund.
You can also utilize the ATMs of major nationalized banks for the generation of EVC.
The net banking is another way for generating EVC. All you need to do is, contact with those banks that offer this facility and you shall be guided through the overall steps for generating the EVC.
Some additional factors of EVC
The EVC must be used along with the PAN of any individual, because other than that, the 10 digit alphanumeric code shall not be valid.
The EVC can be utilized for the verification of ITR, like ITR 1, 2A, 3, 4 and 4S.
If you think that one EVC can be used for verifying more than one ITRs then you are absolutely wrong. One EVC can only be used for validating any one ITR, irrespective of original or return.
After the generation of EVC, you shall have 72 hours, but if you are in need, then you can generate EVC at any time through the various methods mentioned above. And it is not true that EVC can be generated only once. You can generate as many times as you require for the verifications of above mentioned ITRs.
This has been really convenient for the people because, previously, it was too much hassle for the verification of ITR, there were certain dates that need to be followed for the submission of required documents before the verification. But with the development of EVC, individuals are now able to opt for the verification procedure according to their convenience. It saves a lot of time, labor and money.
Generating EVC through Bank ATM
The generation of EVC through, Bank ATMs can be done if your PAN is linked with that bank ATM. Also you need to register it with the IT department. It will be extremely beneficial if you do not have the net banking facility.
The first step is to visit the ATM and then swipe the card. Enter the pin number.
After that you shall be provide with the option of “generate EVC for income tax return filing”.
All you need to do is click on that option and your EVC shall be provided to you on your registered mobile number.
Generation of EVC through online Net Banking (SBI, HDFC,and ICICI)
Before you opt for the generation of EVC through online banking, the first thing that you need to do is ensure whether the bank has authorization from income tax department to provide EVC for individuals who are filing income tax returns. You can do that either by accessing bank officials or by checking the official website of that bank. The next thing is you need to validate your PAN through KYC. After this has been done, login to your online bank account and proceed further.
After logging into your net banking account, you have to search for income tax, e-filing option. The name might differ from one bank to another, but there is nothing to worry because the options of income tax filing shall always be there. Click on certain tab that says about managing your taxes. After that you shall be redirected to the tax department’s official website. You shall be notified to confirm PAN and once it is notified there are some formalities that need to be fulfilled. Just keep on following the instructions offered within the official website. That’s it; you are successful in generating EVC through net banking.
Generating EVC through official website of income tax returns
This method can also be used for the generation of EVC only if your ITR is less than 5 lakh as mentioned earlier. Now, check out the following steps for the OTP generation through the official website of IT department.
First, register to the website of income tax department and then log in.
There will be different tabs for different functions, click on the e-file tab and then you shall have the option of “Generate EVC”.
You shall have the EVC code sent to your registered mobile number and email id.
EVC generation through Aadhar OTP
The ITR can be verified through Aadhar card. But for this you need to link up the Aadhar card along with income tax website and then register the PAN number on the same website. When your Aadhar card has been verified, you shall receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. The OTP is necessary for verifying your IT returns.
And in any situations, if you are not able to use the above mentioned procedures for the verification of income tax returns, then you can also opt for the physical ITR-V. The previous option for sending ITR-V to CPC Bangalore does also exist and you shall have enough time to send the complete and signed copy of ITR-V from 120 days of e-fling date. But it is better if you opt for the online procedure because, there might be certain issues with postal system and your verification may not take place in time. The best way is to utilize net banking system.
Verifying income tax returns through EVC
After you have uploaded the entire documents for e-verification of ITR then you can carry on with the further processes.
The first step is to log in to your income tax official e-filing website.
Click on e-file button and then select on the e-verify return.
Now, you shall see the documents which are uploaded by yet to be verified. It will be displayed in a table format.
The returns that you want to verify, just click on e-verify.
The details about certain options
While you click on e-verify, you shall be provided with certain options and here are the details of every option.
The first option is: “I already have an EVC and I would like to submit EVC”. If you click on this option then you have to generate the EVC through any process mentioned above and when the box appears for inputting the EVC, put the 10 digit number that you received and then click on submit. After that you have to download the acknowledgement.
The second option is “I do not have an EVC and would like to generate an EVC” then you shall have to generate the EVC first and you can do that only via net banking if your total income is greater than 5 lakh. Tax payers are given with only one option, EVC through net banking. When you click on “continue”, you shall be logged out of the e-filling and then a list of banks will be available for you which have authorization of ITR. When you log in you will be redirected to the official website. Click on e-verify and then confirm it.
The third option is “I would like to generate Aadhar OTP to e-verify my return”. In this option you have to generate EVC through Aadhar card.
E-verification of income tax return through Aadhar number
This option is valid when your mobile number has been already registered with Aadhar. With the increased acceptance of Aadhar, it is really essential because more and more government shall be dependent on Aadhar numbers. The PAN and Aadhar shall be linked only if the DOB and Gender are same.
When you log in to the official website of IT, you shall see a pop up that asks to link your Aadhar number along with e-fling account. You can opt for “Link now” or you can choose to “later”. If you click on link now, you need to fill the details like DOB, gender, according to PAN details. Ensure the details are correct and then enter the Aadhar number. Your Aadhar number shall be linked along with PAN.
Then, enter the OTP which is sent to your registered mobile number. Remember that the OTP is valid only for 10 minutes.
On the other hand, if you opt for “Link later”, you cannot generate EVC now. Link later through the profile settings and then click on Aadhar linked with PAN when you come back again for linking both of them.
When your Aadhar is linked with PAN number then you can submit your e-verification return. You need to select option 3, which says “I would like to generate Aadhar OTP to e-verify of my return”.
One time password shall be sent in your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP, and then submit.
A success page shall be displayed and your job is done. Just download the acknowledgement after that.
After the e-verification is complete
When you have completed the e-verification of returns, then a success page shall appear, now, download the acknowledgement form or the attachment file that is mentioned within the success message. You can check that this is exactly similar to the ITR-V, except that it comprises of a message which is printed at the bottom that says, not to send this printed document to CPC Bangalore.
