As mentioned in our article Online Tax Payment you can pay your tax online easily. Now you can also check whether your payment has reached Income tax department online. This system is known as OLTAS – Challan Status enquiry. It can be used based on your challan Identification Number or by providing TAN number. We would provide you the link and the process of how to check payment status made to income tax Department.

Click on CIN Based View to check your challan status which you would have paid. Basically individuals who do not have TAN need to use this link only. Fill in the details as mentioned in the below screen shot. You can find the BSR code, Challan number and Challan date in the Slip that gets generated when you pay the income tax online.
You would be able to view following details once the query made is successful
- BSR Code
- Date of Deposit
- Challan Serial Number
- Major Head Code with description
- Name of Tax Payer
- Received by TIN on (i.e. date of receipt by TIN)
- Confirmation that the amount entered is correct (if amount is entered)
Second option is for TAN view basically TAN or Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is a 10 digit alpha numeric number required to be obtained by all persons who are responsible for deducting or collecting tax. It is compulsory to quote TAN in all TDS/TCS returns (including e-TDS/TCS return), TDS/TCS payment challans and TDS/TCS certificates.
This would be useful to the person or organization who are required to deduct/collect tax at source on behalf of Income Tax Department are required to apply for and obtain TAN.
